What age range is the class for?
Little Musicians Atelier classes are designed exclusively for babies birth to age 2.
Can older siblings join?
We love kiddos of all ages; however, this class is specifically for caregivers to bond with their babies (birth to age 2), and that’s really hard to do when you’re also needing to chase after a three year old who just popped a rock in their mouth and ran off. Please make arrangements for this time to be focused on just your littlest one and you.
If you have an infant and a two year old or multiples, each child will need one adult present with them to fully engage in the music and activities of the class. Moms, dads, grandparents, aunt and uncles, and nannies are all welcome!
Does it really need to be a 1:1 ratio between baby and grown-up?
Yes, for you and your little one to get the full benefits of the class, it absolutely needs to be one on one. Each child needs their own adult present to bond with in the class. This is modeled after research that shows how impactful one on one time is for the parent-child relationship. This is an investment in your relationship with your little one that you will reap the benefits of for years to come!
Are the instruments cleaned between use?
Yes, all instruments are sanitized after every use by a mom (Ms. Jen) who knows exactly what it’s like to have a little one putting their mouth on everything. We use only non=toxic cleaners so it’s safe (and developmentally appropriate!) for your baby to put instruments in their mouth in class.
What happens to class when it rains?
Being outdoors in the fall offers gorgeous weather, and also sometimes brings rain. The decision to cancel class will be made two hours before the start of class and you will be alerted via email and text.
I have a conflict with the class time one week. Is there a make-up class?
We work to offer at least one make up class during each session. The timing is the same, but it is often offered on a Monday morning. Currently, the make up class date is TBD and will be updated here once established.
What should I bring to class?
You need only a blanket to sit on (consider using two or a water resistant blanket to avoid wet bottoms from morning dew), but you can also bring a cup of coffee or tea and a blanket to snuggle up under on a chilly fall morning if you’d like!
Do I have to be musical to join?
Nope, not at all! This class is especially for parents that feel like they don’t know hardly any songs or nursery rhymes to share with their little ones. You will find lots of repetition in the class so that you walk away knowing the songs and rhymes by heart.
Can I feed my baby in class?
You are absolutely welcome to nurse and bottle feed in class as needed. We ask that you please feed solids before and after coming to class to keep the focus on making music together in class!
What does atelier mean and how do you pronounce it?
Atelier (uh-tell-e-ay) is a French word for an artist’s workshop where students work alongside the master artist to learn a craft. You’ll notice that our classes are a blend of guided, instructor-led songs and activities with time and space for little ones to explore without prompting as they build mastery. Both instruction and time to tinker are essential when studying a craft in a workshop setting.
